IR Academy president update-November 2024

Greetings IR Academy families:

After a strong summer, we’re well into the fall 2024 season. I’m excited by the early season success for of IR Academy girls and boys’ teams and look forward to seeing positive results throughout fall league, tournament and NorCal State Cup matches. I want to pass along a few notes for all of you:

  • The 2024 IR Academy Elk Grove Cup welcomed 200 teams September 28-29. We’re very excited to see our event expand each year and we had 75 different clubs participating in this annual event.

  • This summer, IR Academy partnered with the United Soccer League to participate in the organization’s Youth League. We had four teams compete in the USL-Youth League this summer. Discussions are taking place that may expand the league to include teams as young as our Under-10s. Next season, matches will be scheduled in June and July and tryouts for the IR Academy USL teams will be announced before club tryouts. USL-Youth League is associated with the USL Professional League, which includes the Sacramento Republic FC.

  • Congratulations to our 2007/08 Girls, who captured the inaugural USL Youth League Western Under-17/19 Group A championship. They will be moving on to the USL Youth League playoffs, which begin in December.

  • We continue our discussions with the Elk Grove Community Service District (CSD) to expand our club’s field use and allocations. We have seen some improvements but will remain engaged with CSD until we have satisfied our needs through the rest of the fall.

  • CSD will be placing new goals at Bartholomew Sports Park (BSP) in the coming weeks. This has been a high-level need for some time. CSD has raised our field usage fees by nearly 200 percent over the past three years and despite our purchase of the goals, the process has taken far too long. You will begin seeing new goals at BSP very soon.

  • Finally, we need your support in maintaining good sideline behavior, as NorCal Premier is issuing fines and suspensions more frequently than in years past. Instances of verbal abuse directed at officials are now being sent immediately to US Soccer for assessment and penalties. Some suspensions being levied against coaches and players have been as long as six months.

On behalf of our leaders and coaches, thank you for your commitment to our players and coaches.
